The Postcard Project
In many parts of the world, especially Sub-Saharan Africa, girls follow 2 paths: obtain an education or do not obtain an education. The education opens the door to many possibilities and a chance at a life outside of poverty. Reverse The Course was founded to give girls a chance at a better life through education.
In many of these communities girls who are able to attend school do not always receive supportto study hard and remain in school, but a positive word of encouragement can make a huge difference in their lives.
Join us--whether for 1 postcard, a few or an hour--at the Westchester County Center for The Postcard Project.
Volunteers will write postcards and letters to the girls enrolled in education through Reverse the Course. The encouraging notes will include things like how proud we are of them, a favorite subject, a memory of a great teacher, etc. These inspirational notes will have a huge impact. Volunteers can also write notes about their work because many do not have an idea about the many types of work that exist. Mary Grace visited the girls in July and said the girls were so appreciative and grateful to learn that people around the world are thinking of them and wishing them well.
**If you are traveling before 9/11, consider getting a few postcards and bringing them with you.
This project is a part of 9/11: Serve + Remember.
*This is a family-friendly project for children 8 and over with an adult. If you are interested in signing up as a family, please choose Sign up with a team. Thanks!
