2016-2017 Reach Out and Read - Ossining
Open Door Family Medical Centers Reach Out and Read Program is recruiting volunteers to bring books to life for our young patients. Volunteers read aloud with young children using fun reading techniques such as counting objects, naming colors or shapes and even talking about what is happening on the page. Then volunteers help the child select a book to take home and chat with the parent about reading with their child. The goal of the program is to improve kindergarten readiness for children living in poverty. This is a simple, fun, low-key project to help children right in our own communities! We are looking for day time volunteers, after school volunteers and Saturday volunteers. A shift can be as short as one hour per week or longer if desired! We look for a regular commitment. Our volunteers are adults, college students and high school students. Volunteers will have to complete a volunteer application that includes medical information and a background check for those 18 or older. A PPD test and flu vaccine are also required and OPen Door is happy to provide free of charge if desired. www.opendoormedical.org Please contact Alicia Ward, VOlunteer Coordinator at award@odfmc.org.
