Donate New or Lightly Used Children's Books
Many families are struggling with medical and financial burdens that result in little or no exposure to literacy for their preschool children. Research shows that reading aloud at this age fosters academic success and avoids the language delays that hamper children's progress in school. The OPEN BOOK program brings supportive and caring reading volunteers to the out patient clinic at Westchester Medical Center. You can play a big role in supporting this program by donating a new or gently used book for preschool children. Hard covered books for babies are especially needed! There is free parking for volunteers at the Westchester County Center. Let the parking attendant know you are there to volunteer for the 9/11 event. This project is a part of 9/11: Serve + Remember.
