Service Dog Puppy Raisers
BluePath Service Dogs is looking for Volunteer Service Dog Puppy Raisers to care for in their homes for approximately 12-16 months. Volunteer Puppy Raisers teach basic obedience skills and house manners, as well as socialize the pups to all of the sights and sounds of the world. The Puppy Raising Program is a fundamental part of the journey of a BluePath service dog, and providing pups with these experiences helps give them a solid foundation and prepares them for the next phase of their service dog training. First-time raisers will be required to "puppy-sit" for a 6-18 month pup for 10-14 days.
Though BluePath Service Dogs is based in Dutchess County, Puppy Raisers can be located anywhere in the surrounding area. BluePath Service Dogs' expert trainers will visit the Puppy Raisers and their pups at the volunteers' homes.
"It's such a joy to raise a puppy. There's a wonderful sense of community; you really gain an extended family. It's an amazing feeling to be a part of a team that is truly making a difference." — Kathleen Hayward, volunteer puppy raiser
