Cook Meals for Hospitalized Children
The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV) provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families with critically ill or traumatically injured children. It is looking for volunteers with cooking experience to help prepare meals that will be distributed to local hospitals to serve the families of hospitalized children. Volunteer Cooks will follow a custom-created menu in the Ronald McDonald House kitchen, and all ingredients, supplies, and instructions will be provided by RMHGHV upon the start of each shift.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a small group to prepare approximately 30-50 individual meals
- Package meals in a clean and safe manner
- Clean the kitchen at the end of each shift; any materials used to prepare meals should be cleaned and kept organized for use by the next meal group
- Follow food safety guidelines (i.e. wear gloves, wash hands, eliminate cross contamination, etc.) and safely store leftover ingredients
- Act as a representative of RMHGHV, adhering to all policies and procedures including confidentiality of guest families
Commitment:
- Volunteer a minimum of two 3-hour scheduled shifts per month. Shifts occur Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Consider shifts as a serious commitment, for a minimum of six months, with minimal absences
Qualifications:
- 18 years old or older
- Resourceful and able to work independently and in a team
- Able to represent the Ronald McDonald House in a professional manner
- Complete and pass a criminal background check
- Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
Training:
- Attend new volunteer orientation
- Attend training on food safety
- All volunteers will be provided with a volunteer handbook
