Deliver and Distribute Meals for Hospitalized Children

The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV) provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families with critically ill or traumatically injured children. Meal Disbursement Volunteers will use their own vehicles to help transport meals from the Ronald McDonald House to Blythedale Children's Hospital and then distribute these meals to the families of hospitalized children.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize personal vehicle to transport meals from RMHGHV to Blythedale Children’s Hospital safely and punctually
  • Provide an atmosphere of warmth and support when handing out meals to families
  • Represent both RMHGHV and Blythedale Children's Hospital, adhering to all policies and procedures including confidentiality of patients and families
  • Interact with Blythedale staff as a representative of RMHGHV
  • Encourage meal recipients to complete the program survey attached to their meal
  • Work closely with Blythedale staff to maintain a respectful, professional approach
  • Work with Blythedale staff to safely store leftover food at the end of each shift

Commitment:

  • Volunteer a minimum of two 3-hour scheduled shifts per month. Shifts occur Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Consider shifts as a serious commitment, for a minimum of six months, with minimal absences

Qualifications:

  • 16 years old or older
  • Have a reliable vehicle that can be used for transportation of meals
  • Resourceful and able to work independently and in a team
  • Represent the Ronald McDonald House in a professional manner
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check
  • Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
  • Meet Blythedale Children’s Hospital Volunteer Guidelines and undergo training
  • Complete a tuberculosis test within the past year
  • Provide immunization records
  • Receive the Seasonal Influenza vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination (including booster)

Training:

  • Attend new volunteer orientation for RMHGHV Training on food safety
  • All volunteers will be provided with a RMHGHV volunteer handbook
  • Volunteers will be trained through RMHGHV and Blythedale Children's Hospital
