Help Pack Hygiene Kits for the Homeless - Sensory-Friendly Project (AM)
Sensory-Friendly Community Service Project, this project is designed for families and their children of any age to participate in a community service project together in a sensory friendly environment. The project offers easy to use supplies, in a small group setting, with low lighting and low noise and flexibility to stay as little or as long as attention spans allow. This is not a drop off space; a family member is required to stay. Room will have staff with sensory disorder training to offer support and guidance on project. This project is specifically designed for individuals who are on the autism spectrum and/or have sensory integration issues. Volunteers will assemble personal care packs with essential hygiene and first aid supplies to bring a bit of warmth to adults who are struggling with homelessness. In addition to assembling the kits, volunteers will make a small waterproof toiletry bag and write a message of warmth. Kits created will be donated to be used during the Point in Time Count in Westchester County. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old or 12 years old with an adult to participate in this event. All volunteers must be with an adult at all times and fill out a youth waiver. PARKING: There is one entrance to the JCC only, right off of route 9. The entrance is around the side when you pull in, volunteers should park in the second lot. Look out for the signage to help.Shames JCC is a vax required facility, and all volunteers ages 12+ will have to show proof of vaccination to be let in for the Day or Service. We are monitoring covid levels in the counties and will follow CDC guidelines for any masking requirements we might put in place. This project is a part of 9/11: Serve + Remember.
