Volunteer Court Watchers
Westchester Children's Association is looking for Volunteer Court Watchers to attend scheduled proceedings in New Rochelle's and Mount Vernon's landlord-tenant courts. Court watching allows the public to view court proceedings and ensure fair and honest practices as the justice system operates. Court watching remains a powerful tool that may change the behaviors of decision makers. "Landlord-Tenant" court is one example of where court watching can be implemented to improve outcomes in Westchester County.
The Court Watchers program will train volunteers about what to look for in court, how to understand legal language and terminology, and how to collect data, as well as provide training in cultural sensitivity and samples of court cases. Volunteer Court Watchers will be trained through a collaboration of attorneys, community organizations, and volunteers.
This is a great opportunity for individuals with an interest in the justice and legal system, budding attorneys and legal associates, and retirees. Express interest below!
