Board Member (Grant Writing)

Homeless Remedies is a nonprofit that aims to help homeless individuals achieve self-sufficiency and to improve the quality of life for the underserved. It is seeking a Board Member and Grant Writer to assist with its grant research and writing needs.

Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative (persuasive) writing, or a related area
  • 2+ years of professional grant writing for funding with a working knowledge of grant proposal submission and fundraising processes
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations

Essential duties:

  • Establish and sustain working relationships with Homeless Remedies Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and members of the Board of Directors.
  • Research and ascertain grant opportunities
  • Set quarterly and annual goals
  • Draft grant proposals and prepare supporting documents
  • Present grant proposals and required supporting documents to the CEO, COO, and board of directors for approval
  • Submit grants in exact adherence to their respective deadlines
  • Respond to queries from the board of directors and sourced external entities regarding drafted and submitted grant proposals
  • Work in alliance with the Homeless Remedies Inc.'s board of directors’ Developer of Fundraising Manager
  • Serve on the Homeless Remedies Inc.'s board of directors' fundraising committee to enhance efforts to maximize funding opportunities
  • Maintain a tracking system for grants submitted and the funding yielded
  • Prepare tracking system reports for review during the board of directors meetings.
  • Prioritize communications with the board of directors regarding the grant writing process

Board responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and attend a minimum of 3 board meetings annually
  • Have a working knowledge of Home Remedies Inc.'s mission and policies
  • Adhere to Home Remedies Inc.'s bylaws, policies, and board meeting decisions/decrees
  • Serve as an advocate and ambassador for Homeless Remedies Inc.
  • Participate in fundraising and resource development
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all Homeless Remedies Inc.'s internal matters
  • Satisfy board members "Give and Get" initiative of $500 to Homeless Remedies Inc. in a lump sum upon acceptance of said board position, or in 3 installments within 3 months of joining the board of directors
