2023 Battle of the Books

The Westchester Library System is looking for energetic volunteers for its annual Westchester Battle of the Books competition. Battle of the Books is a book-based trivia tournament for grades 4 through 12. The goal of the program is to promote a love of reading and to inspire teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition. It's a fun day for everyone—team members and volunteers alike!

Volunteers are needed for the following roles:

• Emcees: read the questions in each battle round and award points to the team that answers correctly
• Room Monitors: ensure the number of people in a room does not exceed fire code limit and maintain a quiet and respectful atmosphere for the battle round to run smoothly
• Runners: bring the scores from the battle round hallway to the Scoremaster in the gym after each round
• Greeters: help run the registration desk, check in volunteers and teams, and help set up for the Final Battle
• Gym Monitors: help keep order in the gym between battle rounds
• Lunch Helpers: hand out pizza and water to teams during the break
• Timekeepers: keep time for each battle round
• Scorekeepers: keep score for each battle round
