Front Desk Volunteers - Yorktown Heights

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals for greater independence, as well as creating and supporting life-changing connections between people and dogs. Front Desk Volunteers serve as the first point of contact at the Yorktown Heights campus and assist with a variety of administrative tasks.

Volunteer Duties

• Answer and route incoming calls on multiple telephone lines
• Manage UPS/FedEx or any other incoming packages; notify recipients of delivery
• Allow entry of visitors through main gate, check them in at the front desk, and notify the designated staff member(s) of their arrival
• Assist with inventory of equipment room
• Package and ship guide dog equipment
• Provide backup to Training Program Associate and/or Programs Office Manager, Training Department when necessary

Volunteer Requirements

• Prior Administrative experience a plus
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), including spreadsheets
• Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to set priorities and multitask effectively
• Professional demeanor and appearance
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability and comfort in interacting with donors, volunteers, staff, clients, and the general public
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and lift and carry up to 10 pounds
• Must be comfortable around large, active dogs

Time Commitment

• The office is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at least once per week. Volunteers may select the day(s) that they are available
