Bilingual (Spanish-English) Translators

The United Way of Westchester and Putnam is seeking bilingual (Spanish-English) volunteer to assist as translators at tabling events to promote the Double Up Food Bucks program. Volunteers will engage with shoppers, answer questions, and distribute materials about the initiative.

Volunteer tasks:

• Provide information about the Double Up Food Bucks program
• Answer questions from community members in Spanish
• Engage with visitors at market tables, explaining the program benefits and requirements

Volunteer requirements:

• Fluency in both Spanish and English
• Enthusiasm for promoting healthy eating
• Availability to volunteer for 2-hour shifts at scheduled market events

Double Up Food Bucks is a program that doubles the value of federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits spent at participating farmers' markets, retailers, and mobile markets. The initiative helps families bring home more locally grown fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers and food retailers.

Volunteers will contribute to a program that uplifts local food systems, promotes healthier eating habits, and supports families in stretching their food budgets. Additionally, volunteers with bilingual skills will help bridge language barriers, ensuring that all community members have access to valuable information about this beneficial program.
