2024 Canned Food Drive - Greenburgh Public Library

United Way of Westchester and Putnam's Canned Food Drive will span two counties (Westchester and Putnam), and volunteers are needed to help support individuals and families facing food insecurity.

A valid driver’s license and access to a mid-sized or large vehicle are required for this opportunity.

Responsibilities include:

1. Sorting, documenting, and packaging food for distribution
   1. Sorting, counting, and checklist maintenance: ensure donation quality by sorting, counting acceptable items, and maintaining an item checklist for accuracy and organization. Manual tasks may be involved
   2. Photography and documentation: capture the donation process by photographing volunteers, staff, and donation sites to immortalize collective efforts and generosity
   3. Packaging and distribution preparation: assist in bagging or boxing acceptable food items at the library, including Double Up Food Bucks program flyers. Prepare donations for distribution to the food pantry
2. Manual assistance and pickup
   1. Manual tasks support: perform manual tasks like lifting, moving, and loading/unloading heavy items
   2. Food pickup logistics: volunteer use their mid-sized or large vehicles to collect food items from a local library and deliver to a corresponding food pantry
3. Delivery and appreciation documentation
   1. Drop-off and delivery: transport collected food items to designated pantry, ensuring safe and timely delivery
   2. Photography at pantry: take photos of volunteers and pantry staff with donated items as a token of appreciation
