Board Members
Hope's Door seeks to end domestic violence and to empower victims to achieve safety, independence, and healing from the trauma of abuse. It is currently seeking candidates to expand its Board of Directors. Board Members report to the Board President and are expected to serve two 3-year terms.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in creation, review, and furtherance of the mission and mission statement
- Select the Executive Director
- Support and evaluate the Executive Director
- Ensure effective planning by requiring the implementation of and adherence to a strategic plan, which is updated periodically
- Monitor programs to ensure they are both consistent with the mission and effective
- Oversee the finances of the organization, including its annual Development Plan
- Attend regular meetings, committee meetings, and the annual training
- Be prepared for meetings by reviewing in advance all of the supporting materials provided
- Contribute skills, knowledge, and experience
- Step into leadership roles on the Board as appropriate
- Participate in discussions and decision-making
- Make a financial commitment at a level that is meaningful to the director
- Ensure development of requisite knowledge of domestic violence issues and the needs of clients
- Be a representative and advocate of the agency in the public and private spheres
Time commitment:
- Attend regularly scheduled Board meetings (6 per year), in person or virtually
- Participate in up to two Board committees and attend committee meetings, whether in person or virtually
- Attend the following events:
- Annual Advisory Board meeting
- Annual board training or retreat
- Two annual fundraisers (spring and fall)
- Annual Teen Symposium, if possible
- Participate in 2-3 priority events as determined by the Executive Director
