Hospice Patient Volunteers
Hospice of Westchester is seeking volunteers to provide patient visits in-person, virtually, or via telephone. This includes providing emotional support and companionship, assisting with the life review process, and reading to patients. Volunteers will receive hospice-focused and in-service training on health, confidentiality, ethics, and other areas, as well as complete a medical onboarding process and program entrance application.
No specific skills are required beyond enthusiasm, a desire to give back to the community, and a willingness to be part of a great team.
Volunteers are asked to commit about 3 hours per week for a full year to help ensure a valuable, rich experience for patients and volunteers alike. Hospice of Westchester typically encourages volunteers surviving the recent death of a family member to wait a minimum of six months to one year before volunteering in patient visits.
