Library Assistants
The Westchester Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Nonviolence is seeking volunteer Library Assistants to help with a variety of tasks at the MLK Freedom Library, which holds a collection of fiction and nonfiction books and media on the Civil Rights Movement, African American leaders, culture, nonviolence, peace, and more.
Volunteer activities include:
- Support communications, marketing, and publicity efforts
- Assist with programs for children, youth and adults, including book discussions
- Update the database
- Organize books and other library materials
- Put protective covers on books
- Help patrons locate books and resources
- Support library events and programs
- Check in and check out library materials
- Provide customer service to library visitors
- Assist with maintaining a clean and organized library environment
- Help with data entry and cataloging as needed
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for books and reading
- Ability to work collaboratively with library staff and patrons
- Attention to detail and reliability
- Previous experience in a library is a plus, but not required
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with library catalog systems are beneficial
