Habitat Restoration with the Conservation Dogs

Volunteers are needed to join the Trail Conference Conservation Dogs Program for a day dedicated to restoring a meadow habitat in Harriman State Park. The program kicks off with a demonstration from the Conservation Dogs to give volunteers a close-up look at how they use their specialized noses to sniff out invasive species in the region. Afterwards, volunteers will learn how to identify and removing an emerging invasive species, Scotch broom, from a meadow habitat. This will help make space for native species to return to this unique ecosystem.

No experience is necessary, but volunteers should wear field-appropriate clothing, including long pants, long shirt, and sturdy shoes. Volunteers should bring their own water, lunch, and snacks, and wear bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat (if preferred). Gloves and eye protection can be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own.
