Communications Assistant
The Communications Assistant will implement email communications and perform website updates as needed to help the Living Artist Society (LAS) grow and engage its project stakeholders, donors, and sponsors. This role reports to the CEO who will provide schedules for emails and updates and be available for support. The content itself will be provided by project team members.
This role is perfect for college students wanting to build up their skills and work experience, an early career individual interested in exploring potential job paths, or a seasoned retiree looking for purposeful activities. Candidates will have access to networking opportunities with seasoned professionals in the arts, community development, marketing, and activism. They will also engage with local artists, municipal leaders, and community organizations to build meaningful connections that could support future career endeavors or personal growth.
Tasks:
- Manage email communications including newsletters, survey invitations, and event announcements
- Maintain email lists, including manually adding email addresses collected at events to marketing lists
- Update website, including updating event content, team and board information, and creating special landing pages
Skills and qualifications:
- Basic understanding of managing audiences and setting up mailings with MailChimp is required; training will be provided to explain the processes specific to LAS mailings
- Familiarity with updating web content is required. Knowledge specifically of WIX or Squarespace is a plus
- Willingness to troubleshoot glitches that arise or research how to implement a new idea
Time commitment:
- Initial onboarding will take a few hours for training and some focused time for implementing each email program. Email processes will make use of time-saving features such as automation and pre-scheduling
- Website updates are most frequent in February, April, and September

The mission of Living Artist Society (LAS) is to use arts-based programs to promote cultural exchange and to cultivate the creative capacity of communities to achieve positive social and economic impact. We do this through creative placemaking projects in partnership with municipalities, local artists, arts organizations, and community service organizations. We currently have two projects in progress, each with an assigned team that moves the work forward: Strand Theatre renovation (soon to be Sleepy Hollow Arts and Culture Community Center) and the Robeson in Peekskill Project.
