Board Member (Treasurer)

The Trip Foundation is a nonprofit based in New Rochelle that funds international and domestic field trips for public high school students in the New York City metropolitan area. Its mission is to expose students in underserved communities to a world beyond their own, broaden their intellectual and cultural horizons, and inspire them to become global citizens.

The Trip Foundation is currently seeking a Treasurer to serve on the Board of Directors and as a voting officer of the organization. The successful candidate will have at least five years' experience managing and monitoring an organization's financial operations. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities which will be carried out in collaboration with the Founder and CEO of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee financial transactions, budgets, and financial reporting
  • Provide regular financial updates to the board
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices
  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly Board meetings, ensuring attendance at a minimum of three out of the four meetings in a calendar year
  • Contribute to the strategic planning, governance, and oversight of The Trip Foundation in alignment with its mission and objectives
  • Contribute expertise, time, and resources to advance the organization's mission and objectives
  • Collaborate with the executive team to set and monitor objectives
  • Act as a spokesperson and ambassador for the organization
  • Act in the best interests of the organization, avoiding any actions that could compromise the organization's integrity, mission, or reputation
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, donors, and partners
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Adhere to the organization's Conflict of Interest Policy, avoiding any conflicts of interest and promptly disclosing any potential conflicts as they arise
  • Support and participate in fundraising and development efforts as appropriate

Key Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in accounting, finance, business analytics, economics, or related field. CPA preferred
  • Five years working in the financial sector or a related field
  • Detailed oriented
  • Strong communication and computational skills
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization

Time Commitment:

  • Board members serve for one year. Subsequent appointments will be made following a Board election, during which the candidate must receive at least two-thirds of the votes cast in his or her favor in order to be reappointed to the Board
  • Board meetings occur quarterly

  • Remote/Virtual
