Courtney's Tie Drive

Staff Sgt. Courtney A. Hollinsworth was one of many Yonkers veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Yonkers resident Staff Sgt. Courtney A. Hollinsworth, born October 18, 1980, attended Yonkers Public Schools and was an active member of his community and church. Shortly after graduation, Hollinsworth enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17. While in the service, he moved up the ranks and served in several tours of duty while earning various awards and commendations. Hollinsworth’s last tour in 2007 to Baghdad, Iraq resulted in his death on September 9, 2007. His mother, Hope Hollinsworth Coaxum, has worked tireless in making sure the memory of her son lives on. Amongst other charitable work devoted to Veterans in her role as President of the Gold Star Mothers of the Yonkers Chapter, in 2018 she partnered with the City of Yonkers, The Department of Veterans Services and the New York State Division of Veteran Services in collecting new ties in honor of her son, Courtney. One hundred and fifty brand new ties were distributed to Veterans during the 9th Annual Complimentary breakfast recognizing Veterans contributions and in remembrance of those who served. The tie collection will start this year, 2019, on August 19th and conclude on SSG. Courtney Hollinsworth’s Birthday, October 18th where Mrs. Coaxum hopes to collect a substantial amount of new ties to gift all veterans in attendance during the 10th Annual Complimentary Breakfast.
