Organization Profile
Old Guard of Westchester
https://www.oldguardofwestchester.orgThe Old Guard of White Plains is a not-for-profit organization, with roots that go back to 1954. Old Guard members are residents of Westchester County and neighboring communities. They are retired or semi-retired men who had careers as businessmen, lawyers, doctors, managers, financiers, writers, teachers, and communication specialists. We meet every Tuesday at the Ethical Culture Society building in White Plains to socialize and listen to guest speakers on topics ranging from local, regional and national social issues, economic and political topics, medicine and other science related subjects. Organized recreational activities – indoor bowling (year round), golf and lawn bowling during the summer fill the week. Some members stay for bridge or a discussion group after the regular Tuesday meeting. A luncheon, open to members, spouses and friends, is held monthly at different local clubs. Several outside activities – plays, concerts, dinners, cruises and group tours – are organized during the year. Participation in all activities is voluntary. We are an organization without any staff, paid or otherwise. All of our activities, including administration and organization, are managed by members themselves through numerous committees. The Board of Directors and members of the Old Guard are always pursuing ways to promote diversity in the organization. It seeks men who are alert, active, able, willing and eager to participate in the organization’s activities as well as its operations, men who represent a good balance in terms of age, religion and ethnicity.
